Minor Use Label Extension Granted for Group 3 Herbicide

Winnipeg, MB - (March 22nd, 2018) – With 2018 crop seeding quickly approaching, Gowan Canada has announced that industrial hemp has been added to the Edge® Granular Herbicide label.  Already with one of the largest list of registered crops in Western Canada, Edge now has 15 crops on its label including hemp, alfalfa (establishment), canola, caraway, chickpeas, coriander, dill, dry beans, fababeans, field peas, lentils, mustard, safflower, soybeans, and sunflowers.  The hemp registration covers both Eastern and Western Canadian growing regions.

“Hemp growers have access to a limited number of herbicides. Having Edge registered provides a much needed option for broad spectrum weed control and fits very nicely with the production practices of the crop”, states Jeff Kostuik, Director of Operations Central Canada, US & International for Hemp Genetics International.

Garth Render, General Manager for Gowan Canada sees lots of potential for the hemp industry.  “Hemp is a great rotational crop for a small but growing number of producers in Canada.  And with a Group 3 mode of action, Edge will help increase mode of action diversity which is important in the fight against herbicide resistance.  We are excited that the minor use community has been successful in providing hemp growers access to our broad spectrum grassy and broadleaf weed control tool”.

Growers with any questions on using Edge for hemp production should contact their local retailer or local Gowan Canada representative for more information.
