Edge Granular Herbicide

Broad spectrum group 3 herbicide for pulses, canola and specialty crops, Edge® Granular Herbicide is a proven pre-emergent residual herbicide providing early weed removal and long-term control of grassy and broadleaf weeds.

MANAGE HERBICIDE RESISTANCE

With a unique Group 3 mode of action, Edge® is an excellent resistance management tool for your farm. Use Edge alone as a rotation with other herbicide groups, or as a base layer in a herbicide layering program to help manage herbicide-resistant wild oats and other resistant grassy and broadleaf weeds such as green foxtail*, kochia and many others.

USE IN CONVENTIONAL OR ZERO TILLAGE

Edge is a granular herbicide that is suited for both conventional and zero-tillage operations. In conventional tillage, apply Edge and incorporate twice to provide a 3"–4" layer of protection against germinating weeds. In zero or min-till, a surface application and light harrowing provides optimum control.

PRE-EMERGENT YIELD ADVANTAGE

Edge controls weeds underground as the weeds germinate in the treated layer. Pre-emergent weed control gets your crop off to a fast, clean start to help maximize yield potential.

REGISTERED CROPS

Canola, field peas, lentils (fall only), faba beans, yellow mustard, edible beans, sunflowers, alfalfa (establishment), soybeans, and other specialty crops

WEEDS CONTROLLED

Kochia, wild buckwheat, redroot pigweed, lamb’s-quarters, cow cockle, barnyard grass, green foxtail*, yellow foxtail, and many more

WEEDS SUPPRESSED

Wild oats, cleavers, hemp-nettle, lady’s-thumb, Russian thistle, volunteer barley, volunteer wheat

*Does not control trifluralin-tolerant green foxtail.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT

Ethalfluralin – Group 3 – dinitroanaline

FORMULATION + PACKAGING

5% limestone granular – 25 kg bags or 544 kg minibulks

SYMPTOMOLOGY

Edge causes inhibition of shoot elongation, swelling of stems, dark green or purpling of tissues, and stunted root development.

CROP ROTATION

Do not seed small-seeded annual grasses the year following Edge, including oats, timothy, millet, and canary seed. On rolling fields where hills have less than 2% organic matter, there is potential for delayed emergence of wheat in very dry years. Barley is more tolerant. Legumes and flax are tolerant the following year.

RATES

APPLICATION FOR BEST RESULTS

Edge binds to soil particles forming a herbicidal barrier in the layer of soil where weed seeds will germinate. For best results:

  1. Evenly distribute Edge granules across field with a properly calibrated applicator at the correct rates.
  2. For conventional tillage, weed seeds are generally in the top 3"–4" of soil. Two tillage passes at this depth at right angles across the field, at least 72 hours apart, will allow for adequate distribution to occur in the soil profile.
  3. In zero or minimum-tillage fields, weed seeds will be in the top ½"–1" of soil. A “direct surface” application of Edge, followed by a light harrowing, will ensure good soil contact and improve weed control.

Edge will not control emerged weeds, so use a pre-seed burndown application to control early emerging weeds.
